Discover Kampot
Kampot has a rich history as the regional capital and as an important port during the 19th century French Colonial Administration. The town center, unlike most Cambodian provincial capitals, is composed of 19th century French colonial architecture.
Traders from near and far came to Kampot to purchase its unique high quality pepper which is now protected under a UN Geographic Identification. These pepper plantations are now one of the main tourist attractions in the region where you can tour the farms and sample the unique flavors.
Bokor Hill Station located on Bokor Mountain is an old mountain luxury resort and retreat for colonial residents in the 1920s. Long left unoccupied, the old community has now become a popular tourist stop to see the remaining structures which include the royal residence, a church and casino. There are also beautiful waterfalls which can be accessed by a short hike.
Phnom Sorsia is a grouping of Buddhist caves long considered a holy site. Natural features in the caves resemble spiritually important animals such as the White Elephant. Several children eagerly await with an offer to guide you through the winding underground complex.
In the late afternoon take a sunset cruise up the Tuek Chhu as it winds through the Kampot countryside. You’ll see traditional wooden fishing boats heading out for the overnight fishing trips along with the residents going about the daily activities in their villages along the river. A wonderful way to end the day.
